Excess Wear and Use

At the end of your lease, you will be responsible for excess wear and use, excess mileage and any other lease-end obligations, as outlined in your lease agreement. DataScan Field Services (DFS), will contact you approximately 45-60 days prior to your scheduled maturity date to schedule a complimentary vehicle inspection.

DFS will spend approximately 30 minutes inspecting your vehicle, at a place of convenience for you, such as your home or workplace. At the end of that inspection, the DFS representative will provide a detailed estimate of your excess wear and use charges.  In addition, the inspection report will also be available, at datascanfieldservices.com, approximately two business days after the inspection is completed. You will need your VIN Number and your Southeast Toyota Finance Account Number to access your report. You may also request a copy of the inspection report by calling 1-866-531-4986.  You may view a sample inspection report on the DataScan Website.

What are typical examples of excess wear and use?

Excess wear and use is explained in your Lease Agreement and may include:

·         Glass that is damaged or that you have tinted

·         Damaged body, frame, fenders, metal work, trim, or paint

·         Missing wheel covers, jack or wheel wrench

·         Torn dash, floor covers, seats, headliners, upholstery or interior work or trunk liners

·         Any tires (including spare) that are missing, not of comparable quality to the originals, or with less than 1/8 inch of tread remaining

·         Damage from water, hail, or sand

·         Any damage that makes the vehicle either unsafe or unlawful to operate

·         Any other damage, whether or not covered by insurance that would cost more than $50 to repair or replace.

Other examples of excess wear and use are: missing, inoperable or cracked headlights, tail lights, turn signals, rear view or outside mirrors; missing or inoperable seat belts or SRS - air bag, missing headrests or seats (including the 3rd seat in an SUV), engine damage or inoperable vehicle, and missing audio equipment.

What should I do about excess wear and use?

We recommend scheduling an appointment with your local Toyota dealer once you have received the vehicle inspection results. They may have suggestions for cost-effective repairs. Please retain all repair receipts so that you can provide them to establish repairs were made.

If you choose not to make repairs, we will send you an end-of-term invoice that includes charges for these items. The invoice will arrive within a few weeks after you or the Toyota dealer notify Southeast Toyota Finance of vehicle turn-in.

When will I be charged for excess wear and use, and any other end-of-term payments?

Approximately four weeks after we’ve been notified of vehicle turn in, you will receive an invoice with any excess wear and use and excess mileage charges.  You are also responsible for any past due payments and other unpaid charges such as the disposition fee, property tax and any other charges that may be due under your lease contract.  Please refer to your Lease Agreement for complete details.
