Driven to Innovate
Off the beaten path: the new 2022 Tacoma TRD Pro
August 2021
4 min read
Off-roaders, your time is now.

Toyota has previously been known for its rugged yet durable off-roading vehicles like the Land Cruiser. But the new 2022 Tacoma TRD Pro is built for tougher landscapes. TRD stands for Toyota Racing Development, the department that crafted and tested new parts for this vehicle.

With a 3.5-liter V6 engine, 278 horsepower, and 6-speed automatic or manual transmission, the 2022 Tacoma TRD Pro is ready for anything you throw at it. Here’s a look at some of the new features that make the 2022 Tacoma TRD Pro ready to tackle the wild.

Higher suspension
Every off-roader knows suspension is vital to an off-roading vehicle, whether to improve stability or to avoid scraping and damaging the belly of your vehicle with rocks, mud, water or anything else the land may offer. That’s why the 2022 Tacoma TRD Pro can be settled higher than ever before, with a suspension lift of 1.5 inches in the front and half an inch in the back.

Higher suspension allows for driving angles to improve, too. The 2022 Tacoma TRD Pro has an approach angle, or the maximum angle that a vehicle can climb a ramp without the front bumper hitting it, of 36.4 degrees. That’s 1.4 degrees higher than the 2021 model. The new departure angle, which is the same thing but for the back bumper, is now 24.7 degrees – a whopping 5.6 degrees more than last year’s model.

Fine-tuned internal bypass shocks
The 2022 Tacoma TRD Pro comes standard with Goodyear Territory all-terrain tires – but those aren’t the only things that improve your ride. The vehicle is also outfitted with FOX 2.5-inch internal bypass shocks specially tuned by TRD engineers. This device softens bumpy rides to create a better driving experience, no matter the terrain.

On this vehicle, TRD engineers tuned the bypass shocks for three different situations: the Ride Zone, the Bump Zone and the Catch Zone. The Ride Zone keeps smooth rides, like those on pavement, even and easy. In the Bump Zone, however, resistance is toggled so parts of the vehicle can absorb shocks from uneven terrain. Meanwhile, the Catch Zone stops the car from bottoming out.

Incredible interior
It’s not just the outside of the 2022 Tacoma TRD Pro that’s built to impress. It’s also the inside, where you can ride in style.

The inside of the vehicle is outfitted with heated black leather-trimmed front seats. To keep clean on muddy or sandy trails, it also comes with all-weather floor mats. The power moonroof is perfect for days where you want to let the breeze run through the cabin. And for music lovers, you can jam out to your favorite tunes with the JBL Premium Audio system included on automatic transmission models.

Important vehicle features are just a glance away with the 4.2-inch color Multi-Information Display. It features displays for outside temperature, odometer, trip meters, and fuel economy estimate averages. However, it also shows you more technical information with the inclinometer and tilt gauge.

The 2022 Tacoma TRD Pro also has an 8-inch multimedia touchscreen compatible with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa. And with the power-adjustable seat, you’ll never need to worry about the screen being too far away.

“The 2022 Tacoma TRD Pro takes what was great about previous models and adds even more to enjoy – especially for the off-roading enthusiast.”

Stylish exterior designs
With the 2022 Tacoma TRD Pro, you already know that the ride will be excellent – but the vehicle also looks good doing it.

Vehicle colors from previous years like Super White, Magnetic Gray Metallic and Midnight Black Metallic are still available. But this year, a new color entered the mix – Electric Lime Metallic. Parts of the front grille, rear bumper, door handles and power outside mirrors match whichever color you chose, giving the vehicle a cohesive look.

2022 Tacoma TRD Pro stamping on the rear quarter panel
Nobody will wonder which Toyota you’re driving with these specially-crafted side markings.

Finally, the 2022 Tacoma TRD Pro is stamped with many black-finished badges. A TRD Pro badge rests on the rear quarter panel and a Tacoma badge is on the front door.

Superior safety systems
Toyota is known for its safety systems, and the 2022 Tacoma TRD Pro is no different. It comes with Toyota Safety Sense-P, which includes the regular suite of Toyota Safety Sense features like a Pre-Collision System, High-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alerts, and Automatic High Beams.

The 2022 Tacoma TRD Pro also comes with features that aren’t seen on your average vehicle. It includes the Star Safety System, which has Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control, an Anti-lock Braking System, Electronic Brake-force Distribution, Brake Assist, and Smart Stop brake override technology. It also comes with the driver and front passenger Advanced Airbag System and Roll-sensing Side Curtain Airbags in both the front and rear. Even the headrests are designed to move up and forward during a rear-end collision to help reduce whiplash.

And with the 2022 Tacoma TRD Pro, your surroundings will never be a mystery. All models come with the Multi-Terrain Monitor, where the driver can check for nearby obstacles by pressing a button to display front, rear and side cameras on the touchscreen. Even at night, the powerful Rigid Industries LED fog light will brighten your path.

Long-lasting warranties
The 2022 Tacoma TRD Pro is built to last, but its warranties put your mind at ease. Its new vehicle warranty, which applies to everything other than normal wear and maintenance, lasts for 36 months of 36,000 miles. The powertrain is also covered for 60 months or 60,000 miles – and there’s no limit on the corrosion warranty.

It’s easy to schedule maintenance with ToyotaCare, which covers 2 years or 25,000 miles of average maintenance. The vehicle even comes with 24-hour roadside assistance for two years, regardless of mileage.
