Driven to Innovate
Crossing boundaries: introducing the 2022 Corolla Cross
March 2022
3 min read

New to the Toyota lineup, this sleek, compact SUV comes with big potential and is ready to take on every day.

You’ve heard of the Corolla, a compact and affordable car loved by Americans since its release in the ‘60s. But this year, Toyota is bringing something new to the table — the 2022 Corolla Cross.

Smaller than the RAV4 but larger than the C-HR, the Corolla Cross is a sport utility vehicle built for those who need a little more space. Its three trims offer a multitude of safety, convenience, and styling options, so you can choose what’s right for you. And although it’s a new addition to the Corolla family, the Corolla Cross has kept what made the Corolla beloved in the first place — great value for an affordable price.

Let’s see what the Corolla Cross has to offer.

An impressive performance

The Corolla Cross may be larger than the Corolla, but it actually has similar gas usage. The 2022 Corolla Cross boasts an average of 32 miles per gallon. That’s just one mile per gallon less than four different 2022 Corolla trims!

This is thanks to its 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine with 169 horsepower, which is included on every trim level. Also seen across the board is available all-wheel drive for when you need that extra bit of traction.

Capping off the experience is the Corolla Cross’s tuned front and back suspension, which work together to provide a smooth, high-seated ride. Specialized equipment like coil springs, hydraulic shock absorbers, stabilizer bars, and more help achieve this feat.

“The 2022 Corolla Cross is spacious, modern, powerful – and ready to help you take on every day.”

Exterior excellence

With its curved and sleek roof paired with sporty angled fenders, the Corolla Cross is a sight to see. It can even come with silver 17-inch alloy wheels or black-painted 18-inch alloy wheels, adding style from top to bottom. But there’s substance paired with that beauty, too — especially on the outside.

LED low and high-projector headlights are at the front of the vehicle, powerfully cutting through the dark at your preferred brightness. Also available are Daytime Running Lights, which shine at all times to make sure your car is visible. Meanwhile, the trunk at the back of the car can come with a button-press power liftgate for when your hands are full.

But don’t think we forgot about the roof. The Corolla Cross has available roof rails, perfect for strapping on bikes, kayaks, or luggage for adventuring.

A comfortable cabin

Every inch of the Corolla Cross is designed for user convenience and comfort. That starts right on the front dashboard, where a 7 or 8-inch touchscreen connects to Apple CarPlay®, Android Auto™, and Amazon Alexa to link your phone and vehicle seamlessly. Below that is the available Qi wireless charging pad, which charges your phone without any plug-ins.

These features are within easy reach with the available 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat. Both the driver’s seat and the front passenger seat can also be heated, keeping your friends and family toasty during the winter months. Another passenger-favorite is the available moonroof, which can open to allow light and fresh air into the cabin.

The inside of the Corolla Cross is tailored for the comfort of both you and your passengers.

The Corolla Cross is also known for its cargo space, which can fit 26.5 cubic feet, equivalent to about nine medium moving boxes. You can also fold down the back seats to provide even more space for any large items.

Safety in spades

Like every Toyota, the Corolla Cross doesn’t skimp on safety. Each trim level comes with Toyota Safety Sense 2.0™, a suite of pre-collision automatic safety features. Also included is the Star Safety System™, a set of computer-controlled mechanics that work behind the scenes to keep your vehicle stable.

There’s more to it than that, though. The Corolla Cross can be equipped with the Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert. These two systems let you know if another vehicle is by your car when you are changing lanes or backing out of a parking space. Optionally paired with these systems is Braking Assist, which can help apply more brake force if needed.

Also available is Front and Rear Parking Assist with Automatic Braking, which provides visual and audio warnings if your vehicle gets too close to an object when parking. This system comes with Automatic Braking, which can assist you in avoiding potential collisions with nearby static objects.
