Driven to Innovate
Crafted to the highest standard: the all-new 2023 Toyota Crown
April 2023
4 min read

The Toyota Crown is finally returning to U.S. soil after a 50-year hiatus. While the luxury sedan has always been popular overseas, it has not been sold in the U.S. since 1972. With the 2023 Crown, Toyota is reimagining what a luxury full-size sedan should be, combining supreme comfort, powerful acceleration, and the innovative HYBRID MAX System. The 2023 Crown comes in three grades — XLE, Limited, and the performance model, Platinum.

Sleek, modern design

Toyota's automotive designers have worked hard to sculpt a modern, flowing silhouette that distinguishes the 2023 Toyota Crown from others in its class. The 2023 Crown Platinum grade comes standard with beautiful 21-inch, 10-spoke, machined alloy wheels for added effect. You can also choose a unique bi-color paint design that helps you stand out in a crowd, like the all-new Bronze Age color, available on Platinum.

First-class luxury

The interior of the 2023 Toyota Crown is designed with your comfort and convenience in mind. On all grades, driver and passenger seats come standard with 8-way power adjustments and three heating levels. Dual climate control is also standard.

All grades of the 2023 Crown come with a thin, illuminated control panel along the dashboard, just below the multimedia screen. This control panel has frequently used functions on a row of lower keyboard switches. A 12.3-inch color Multi-Information Display (MID) screen is also standard. Drivers can switch between displays with the push of a button, including a Hybrid System Indicator, meant to encourage eco-driving habits by providing information on regeneration and driver system output.

Also standard are wireless Qi charging and USB A, USB C, and 12V ports placed around the cabin so the driver and passengers can stay plugged in.

The Crown Platinum and Limited grades offer more interior options, with a standard panoramic moonroof and heated and ventilated leather seats. For additional convenience, the Limited and Platinum grades can also come with a Smart Key System that works on all four doors.

Leather seats come standard – with heating and ventilation – on Limited and Platinum grades.

For a luxurious ride, the 2023 Crown has a raised chassis height – nearly four inches taller than the Camry – to give you increased visibility. The raised height also allows for easier entry and exit.

A refuge from a busy world

Toyota has worked hard on the sound experience of the Crown's cabin to create a calm and quiet atmosphere conducive to both conversation and music.

The first defense against noise intrusion is Toyota’s high-strength TNGA-K platform, which curbs vibration through the steering, floor, and structure. The masterfully tuned suspension resists road surface disturbances. Strategically placed insulation and thoughtful tire and wheel construction work together in harmony to combat tire noise. A sound-absorbing pad under the cabin and engine bay reduces road and engine noise, and acoustic glass keeps the noise of the outside world outside. All sound insulation choices were made to specifically target the frequencies of noise that typically interfere with conversations between you and your passengers.

But interior sound design is only complete with a powerful and dynamic sound system.

On the XLE grade, Crown offers a clean and powerful six-speaker sound system for all types of music; an audiophile-grade 11-speaker JBL Premium Audio System comes standard on the Limited and Platinum grades. A rear subwoofer brings the bass, and a high-quality 8-channel amplifier powers all speakers. These sound systems were specially tuned to match the Toyota Crown’s unique acoustics, ensuring you get the best sound possible. Toyota's Audio Multimedia system also allows you to connect two Bluetooth devices simultaneously and supports wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™.

Toyota Crown helps you feel your music with deeper lows and powerful base, thanks to a JBL subwoofer behind the passenger seats (standard on Platinum and Limited).

Powerful but efficient powertrain

The Crown's Platinum grade is the first sedan to come with Toyota’s innovative HYBRID MAX powertrain. The HYBRID MAX System is paired with a 2.4-liter turbocharged engine and a six-speed automatic transmission and delivers an impressive 340 horsepower. The result is a performance sedan, providing a sporty and exhilarating drive.

The turbocharged 2.4L engine can generate an exceptional 340 combined net horsepower – and achieves an impressive 0-to-60 mph in 5.7 seconds.

Because of the HYBRID MAX System, this performance also comes with efficiency. The Platinum grade has a manufacturer-estimated combined city and highway rating of 28 miles per gallon.

Fourth Generation Toyota Hybrid System

The XLE and Limited grades of the 2023 Toyota Crown are equipped with the fourth-generation Toyota Hybrid System (THS). The THS uses a newly developed high-output bipolar nickel-metal hydride battery to achieve a manufacturer-estimated combined city and highway rating of 38 miles per gallon.

All-wheel drive for all conditions

All grades of the 2023 Crown come standard with electronic, on-demand all-wheel drive, so you can be confident that your vehicle will handle any driving conditions you may encounter. From traction control in slippery conditions to increased stability when cornering, the Crown's all-wheel drive has you covered.

On the Platinum grade of the 2023 Crown, E-Four Advanced AWD, paired with HYBRID MAX, delivers power to all wheels via the front-mounted hybrid motor and to the rear wheels through a rear-mounted eAxle electric motor. Maximum torque to the rear wheels is available through a water cooling system for the rear motor, which helps to generate optimum power. An electronic system intelligently distributes front and rear-wheel drive force, adjusting between 70:30 and 20:80 ratios when needed.

Toyota’s innovative E-Four Advanced AWD system increases maneuverability, straight-line stability, comfortable turning, and responsive acceleration.

State-of-the-art suspension

The 2023 Toyota Crown has a MacPherson strut front suspension and a new method for fastening the steering gear, which enables rigid, direct handling while reducing noise and vibration. The newly developed multi-link rear suspension helps create a faster response to drive torque.

An electronically controlled brake system featuring Active Cornering Assist enhances the Crown's handling, reducing understeer in certain cornering situations.

With Toyota, safety comes first

All grades of the 2023 Crown come standard with Toyota’s Safety Sense 3.0, a collection of innovative features to protect drivers and passengers.

One such safety feature is Toyota's pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, which helps detect approaching vehicles or pedestrians and provides you with audio and visual alerts. If necessary, the feature will also apply automatic braking.

Other safety features include dynamic radar cruise control, which combines lane departure alerts with steering assist and lane tracing assist. The system can alert you via audio and visual alerts when the vehicle leaves its lane without using its turn signal. When detecting lane markers or a vehicle ahead, the automatic lane tracing assist can also help keep the Crown centered in its lane.

A car you can be proud of

The Toyota Crown has a rich and storied history, first debuting in 1955 as the "Toyopet Crown." Since then, through 15 model generations the Crown has earned its position as Toyota’s premium sedan, as a symbol of innovation and luxury.

Now, the Crown has returned to the U.S. market, more sleek, innovative, and powerful than ever, ready to redefine what it means to be a luxury sedan. Check out the Crown at your local Toyota dealership later this year!
