For the past eight years, the Toyota RAV4 has been the best-selling SUV in the United States — and for good reason. Its sporty looks, stellar safety ratings, longevity, and other great qualities have attracted quite a fan base since the model first debuted in the 90s.

So it only makes sense that in 2025, Toyota would give customers even more to love about the RAV4.

Whether you prefer gas-powered, hybrid, or a plug-in hybrid, the RAV4 is prepared to work with your lifestyle. And each version of the vehicle comes with its own unique features, inviting you to mix and match.

Let’s take a tour of what’s available with the 2025 RAV4.

2025 RAV4: Gas-powered

We’ll start with the traditional RAV4, which matches a powerful gas engine with varied trim levels.

System statistics

The 2025 RAV4’s gas models are powered by a 203 hp, 2.5L four-cylinder Dynamic Force engine. It’s built with an intelligent induction system designed for thermal efficiency, which means better fuel economy and reduced emissions.

The 2025 RAV4 comes in both front-wheel drive (FWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD). Of the AWD models, there are two systems: Standard AWD and Dynamic Torque Vectoring AWD with Rear Driveline Disconnect. Both systems help the vehicle smoothly shift between gears, but the latter can direct up to 50% of torque to the rear wheels, as well as improve fuel efficiency when AWD isn’t needed.

Exterior and interior features

The RAV4 has four grades: LE, XLE, XLE Premium, and Limited.

The LE starts off strong with a hexagon front grille and 17-inch steel wheels with six-spoke wheel covers. Inside, you’ll find fabric-trimmed seating for five and an 8-inch multimedia touchscreen.

But each grade adds more and more, including features like power mirrors with blind spot warning indicators in the XLE or a power liftgate in the XLE Premium. By the time you get to the Limited, you’ll start to see 19-inch alloy wheels and chrome accents, an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, and a 10.5-inch touchscreen.

More multimedia

The 2025 RAV4 has the latest and greatest multimedia screen, designed by Toyota’s Texas-based Connected Technology team. You can interact with it through touch or voice activation, and it can be improved through over-the-air updates. And don’t worry about connecting your phone, because every RAV4 comes with automatic Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay®, and Android Auto™ compatibility.

The multimedia screen is also your portal to Toyota’s five subscription-based Connected Services, which help you operate your car remotely, access extra safety features, turn your vehicle into a Wi-Fi hotspot, and more.

TSS 2.5

The RAV4 comes standard with Toyota Safety Sense™ (TSS) 2.5, an improved version of the previous 2.0 system. It’s equipped with six automatic safety functions that help you navigate the road with peace of mind.

TSS 2.5, for example, added intersection support and emergency steering assist to its pre-collision system. The first can detect oncoming pedestrians and vehicles in an intersection, while the second helps stabilize your steering if you ever need to swerve around an obstacle.

Next up, the 2025 RAV4 Hybrid. These vehicles don’t just have a hybrid engine — they also have unique trims that you won’t find with other model types.

An alternative engine

Behind the 2025 RAV4 Hybrid models is a 2.5L four-cylinder Dynamic Force Engine. Its unique design pairs a small gas engine with two motor generators, reducing emissions and the amount you pay at the pump.

No matter the trim level, all RAV4 hybrids have an Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel Drive system, which uses an independent electric motor at the back wheels to help properly distribute torque and improve tire grip.

Additional trim levels

The 2025 RAV4 Hybrid has several additional trim levels compared to its gas counterpart, including the additional Woodland Edition, SE, and XSE.

Like its name suggests, the Woodland Edition is crafted for outdoor adventure. It comes with Falken® WildPeak AT tires, front and rear mudguards, all-weather floor mats, fine-tuned suspension, roof rails, a 120V power inverter, and more.

Meanwhile, the SE and XSE are sport-inspired. The Hybrid SE has 18-inch multi-spoke, black-painted alloy wheels with shock absorbers and sport-tuned suspension. It also features splashes of blue, from its shock absorbers to blue stitching on the seats.

Additionally, the Hybrid XSE has a standard two-tone paint scheme, joining a Midnight Black Metallic roof with Cavalry Blue, Wind Chill Pearl, Magnetic Gray Metallic or Silver Sky Metallic body color. The blue theme from the SE continues into this model, from blue stitching to blue ambient light. You’ll also get a power liftgate with jam protection, and both models have an optional panoramic glass roof with a sliding moonroof.

2025 RAV4: Plug-in Hybrid

Several 2025 RAV4 models have a two-tone paint option, which pairs a black roof with another body color — in this case, Supersonic Red.

Another choice is the RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid, a new name for a model that has existed since 2021.

A new name

You may have heard of the RAV4 Prime before. If so, you won’t have to stretch your imagination with the RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid, because the two are the same thing. The new name is meant to demystify the vehicle and its capabilities — namely, that it’s a RAV4 hybrid you can plug in for extra EV capabilities.

Charging capabilities

Like the RAV4 Hybrid, the RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid captures energy when you brake and uses it to charge the battery. But you can also plug it in at home or at a public charging station to gain 42 miles of all-electric driving.

Unlike other vehicles of its kind, the RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid doesn’t need any special equipment when you’re charging at home. You just plug the provided cable into a standard outlet, and it will recharge the battery in about 12 hours. If you’re using a Level 2 charger at a charging station, that time gets cut down to about two and a half hours.

Thanks to its plug-in capabilities, the RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid has several modes: electric vehicle, hybrid vehicle/electric vehicle, hybrid vehicle, and charge. In electric vehicle mode, the vehicle relies only on its battery to get around. While in hybrid vehicle/electric vehicle mode, the RAV4 primarily uses the battery but may use the engine to reach higher speeds or climb hills. In hybrid mode, the vehicle switches between the engine and motor to emphasize better gas mileage, and in charge mode, the battery is charging while the gas engine handles the rest.

With all those options, the miles per gallon varies — but while in hybrid mode, you can expect about 38 miles per gallon combined.

Drive modes

Like most Toyotas, the RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid comes with several driving modes, including Eco, Sport, and Trail modes that reduce emissions, emphasize performance, and tackle rough driving conditions, respectively. But it also has something new — Predictive Efficient Drive.

Predictive Efficient Drive pays attention to the road, memorizing when there are curves, hills, stops, and more. Then it adjusts the hybrid system to work with these predicted characteristics, making for the most gas-efficient drive.

Two grades

The RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid has two grades: the SE and XSE.

The SE is decked out with heated front seats, an eight-way power driver’s seat, a height-adjustable power liftgate with jam protection, and more. The available Weather & Moonroof Package gives it a heated steering wheel and rear seats, rain-sensing windshield wipers with a de-icer, and a power tilt/slide moonroof.

Meanwhile, the XSE is even sportier, boasting an available two-tone paint scheme. You’ll also find 19-inch, two-tone alloy wheels, a 10.5-inch multimedia touchscreen with upgraded JBL speakers, SofTex®-trimmed seats, an auto-dimming rearview mirror with HomeLink® universal transceiver, and more.

TSS 2.5+

Unlike the other 2025 RAV4s, the RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid comes equipped with TSS 2.5+. This upgraded system adds new features like curve speed management, which helps you safely turn through a curve. Its emergency steering assist function can also sense another car or bicyclist in front or your vehicle, helping you keep the car stable if you need to swerve around them.
